Stiliyan Petrov diagnosed with acute leukaemia

Aston Villa captain Stiliyan Petrov has been diagnosed with acute leukaemia, the West Midlands club have announced.

The condition was diagnosed following tests after the Bulgaria international, 32, developed a fever following Saturday's 3-0 defeat at Arsenal.
"We expect to learn more about the situation in due course," Villa said.
"Stiliyan is cherished by many and he will get from Villa every ounce of love and support that we have to help bring this to a positive conclusion."
A club statement added: "During this time we ask that Stiliyan's privacy is placed ahead of all inquiries and trust that we will share information as we receive it."
The former Celtic midfielder booked into a London hospital for immediate treatment on Friday.
Aston Villa manager Alex McLeish said Petrov was "defiant" and concerned about his loved ones.
He said: "He's on a train right now to go and get more tests, after the viral condition last week when he had a temperature.
"He reported to the doctor on the bus on the way back from the game. The doctor told me yesterday that we were still waiting on results.
"This is the first day of his recovery."
Of the other Villa players, McLeish added: "They are gutted but galvanised to try to win the game tomorrow for their captain."

Muamba picture from hospital room

Fabrice MuambaThe family of Bolton's Fabrice Muamba has posted a picture of him on Twitter from his hospital room.

It is the first public photo of Muamba since he suffered a cardiac arrest in the FA Cup tie against Tottenham at White Hart Lane on 17 March.
The 23-year-old collapsed on the pitch after 41 minutes of play and was "dead" for 78 minutes.
He was given mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and 15 defibrillator shocks before he reached hospital.
The former England Under-21 international was rushed to the intensive care unit of the heart attack centre at the London Heart Hospital, where he has remained since.
The picture was tweeted on his behalf by his fiancee Shauna, who said: "Fab wanted me to post this pic for you all and to also say thank you for such overwhelming support."

Muamba was given 15 defibrillation shocks in total - two on the pitch, one in the tunnel, and 12 in the ambulance - each giving a 300-joule electric shock.
The day after Muamba collapsed, Bolton and the London Chest Hospital reported that he was moving his arms and legs, breathing independently and able to recognise family members and respond to questions appropriately.
Dr Andrew Deaner said that he was able to talk to Muamba a few days after the attack, and described the recovery as "miraculous".
The cardiologist was at White Hart Lane to watch the game and came from the crowd on to the pitch to help Muamba.
Deaner spoke to Muamba after he was taken out of his medically induced coma, and was heartened that the footballer was able to make a joke just two days after the cardiac arrest.

Everton captain Phil Neville to Muamba's fiancee Shauna on Twitter
"I whispered into his ear, 'What's your name'," recalled Deaner, with Muamba giving his name in response.
"I said, 'I understand you're a very good footballer'. And he said 'I try'."
Bolton doctor Jonathan Tobin helped treat Muamba in the ambulance.
Tobin said: "It was 48 minutes from the time he collapsed to the time he reached the hospital and it was a further 30 minutes in the hospital they were working on him without his heart having a muscular beat.
"In effect he was dead in that time. We were fearing the worst and didn't think we'd get the recovery we had. It's incredible."
Professional Footballers' Association chief executive Gordon Taylor told BBC Sport: "Seeing Fabrice Muamba smiling is the best news of 2012.
"The football family coming together and the quality of the medical assistance has been a really good news story. We all hope and pray that it continues."
It is not known whether Muamba will ever be fit enough to play top-flight football again, but Trotters chairman Phil Gartside says the club will find a role for him should he have to retire.
"He will be here as long as he wants to be," Gartside told BBC Radio 5 live.
Zaire-born midfielder Muamba has made 148 appearances for Wanderers since joining from Birmingham for £5m in June 2008

Bolton players visit Muamba to hospital

Visit: Jussi Jaaskelainen (left), Zat Knight (centre) and David Wheater (right) arrive at the London Chest Hospital to see their pal
Bolton trio Zat Knight, David Wheater and Jussi Jasskelainen made an emotional visit to Fabrice Muamba ahead of tonight's match against Tottenham.

The players took time out from preparations at the team hotel to see their team-mate at the  London Chest Hospital.
Weaing their club tracksuits, the players jumped out of a black cab before a short visit to see Muamba.

For all the emotional issues swirling around Bolton’s return to White Hart Lane, it could have been so much worse.
There could have been no rescheduled FA Cup quarter-final against Tottenham, no delegation paying a visit to the hospital.
We could, as manager Owen Coyle tactfully put it, be having ‘a different conversation’ about Muamba, after he went into cardiac arrest and collapsed on the pitch 10 days ago, and whether Bolton would replay this tie at all.

Balotelli interrupts press conference of the new coach of Inter

The curious case of Mario Balotelli took a new twist this afternoon when he bizarrely burst in on an Inter Milan press conference.
The Manchester City striker, who used to play for the Italian giants, made his unexpected appearance as new manager Andrea Stramaccioni was being unveiled.
The 21-year-old parked a red Ferrari outside the press briefing, burst in and for reasons still unknown simply shook hands with those behind the top table, wished the new manager luck, and left without so much as an explanation.

Inter CEO Ernesto Paolillo, who travelled to London with the NextGen-winning youth squad last week, said the visit from the Manchester City striker was unexpected but not unusual.
‘He came to say hello to everybody at the training centre then left,’ Paolillo told Sportsmail. ‘We did not know he was coming but it’s not the first time. It’s typical of Mario. I see him sometimes when he comes to Milan.
‘I did not see the Ferrari as I was inside the press conference unveiling our new coach Andrea. We kissed hello and he left. We had no time to speak. I’ve known him at Inter since he was a young boy.’
Balotelli and the rest of his City team-mates have been given a couple of days off by manager Roberto Mancini, who himself jetted to Europe where he was seen in Bosnia.

Dinu Gheorghe a refuzat Rapidul şi a ales Steaua » Copos: "Cred că are o problemă"

NEWS Fabrice Muamba is recovering

Fabrice Muamba is "showing small signs of improvement" according to a joint statement from Barts hospital and Bolton Wanderers.
The midfielder remains in intensive care after suffering a cardiac arrest during Bolton's FA Cup sixth-round tie at Tottenham on Saturday night, but the London chest hospital said that, while he is still in a critical condition, there are small reasons to be optimistic.
A Bolton statement read: "His heart is now beating without the help of medication and he is also moving his arms and his legs.
"However, his long-term prognosis will remain unclear for some time. He is still critically ill and will continue to be closely monitored and treated by staff in the London chest hospital's intensive care unit."

Update:
Fabrice Muamba remained critically ill on Monday morning as he continued to fight for his life after suffering a cardiac arrest during Bolton's FA Cup sixth-round tie at Tottenham on Saturday night.
Medical staff took two hours to get Muamba breathing again and he is now being closely monitored in the heart attack centre at the London chest hospital.
A joint statement from Bolton, Barts and the NHS Trust at 9.30am on Monday morning read: "Fabrice Muamba's heart condition is stable, but he remains critically ill in intensive care at the London chest hospital. The family is grateful to the media for continuing to respect their privacy at this time."
Bolton's manager, Owen Coyle, and the club's chairman, Phil Gartside, visited the hospital this morning. Coyle, who accompanied Muamba to hospital, offered his personal thanks for the messages of support that continue to be received, both at the hospital and the Reebok Stadium.
"From our end, and on behalf of the family, we want to say a big thanks to everyone," said Coyle. "We have been inundated by good messages, everyone praying for Fabrice which is very important. It has been a real source of strength for the family. We know how difficult a time it is for everyone. I can't really quantify it [the support]. It has been incredible, not just from the football world, from everyone.
"It is great to be talented at football but it's more important to be a genuinely nice man and everyone recognises Fabrice is that. That has pulled everyone together. We certainly hope he comes through this. If he pulls through it would be marvellous, it really would."
Gartside added his own tribute: "I know Fabrice's family have been overwhelmed by the huge outpouring of kindness, from people visiting the hospital to leave cards to those sending messages and emails.
"The staff at the London chest hospital have been nothing short of exceptional and I would like to thank them all at this ongoing critical time. I ask for everybody to keep Fabrice in their prayers and thoughts."
The Premier League agreed to Bolton's request for Tuesday's planned match with Aston Villa at Villa Park to be postponed. No new date has been confirmed and it is still not clear when Saturday night's game will be played.
Bolton's next game is due to be in the Premier League, against local rivals and fellow relegation candidates Blackburn, at home on Saturday, although no decision will be made until much later in the week about whether that match can proceed. Blackburn have said they are happy to postpone the game, however the Bolton captain, Kevin Davies, believes it is too soon to discuss fixtures following a team meeting on Monday morning at the club's Euxton training complex.
"Any of those questions are irrelevant at the minute," said Davies. "I have been speaking to the manager and I have travelled back with the chairman. He went back down to support Fabrice and his family.
"It was optional to come into training today and decisions will have to be made but my immediate thoughts are with Fabrice and his family. The club will take a stance on it in the next couple of days. But at the minute we want to just try and help Fabrice."
Davies went to hospital with Muamba on Saturday night and marvelled at the work of the medical staff, who he is convinced saved Muamba's life.
"The amount of people who were turning up, running around trying to get Fabrice sorted out was amazing," he said. "There is no doubt in my mind if it wasn't down to all those people, we wouldn't even be in this situation. We are all thankful to them that they have given Fabrice a bit of hope."
Davies has also been touched by the overwhelming support for Muamba from across the footballing world. Fans of both sides applauded the 23-year-old off the pitch on Saturday and supporters at other matches since have offered their own backing with a minute's applause. Numerous scarves and other tributes from competing clubs have been left at the Reebok Stadium.
"It is the first time in my nearly 19 years in the game that I have seen a stadium unite," he said. "It was touching but I was laying in bed thinking how sad it was as well. As professionals, we put a lot of hours in. We work hard and make a lot of sacrifices. But it seems that the only way you are going to get a ripple of applause away from your own ground is to get carried off on a stretcher.
"That is a sad state of affairs. Fans are quick to get off their seats if there is a mis-timed tackle. Maybe people have to ask why Fabrice Muamba runs 80 yards to put a last-ditch tackle in. It is not because he has anything against your team. It is because he is working hard for his own. If there is anything positive to come out of this, when you see supporters from all over, it would be nice if the fans could unite."
After scoring in Chelsea's FA Cup win over Leicester at Stamford Bridge yesterday, Muamba's former Bolton team-mate Gary Cahill revealed a T-shirt with the message "Pray 4 Muamba" printed on it.
Supporters at Wolves' home game with Manchester United combined in a minute's applause before kick-off.
The referee Howard Webb, whose prompt actions on Saturday, in addition to those of medical staff have received such praise, withdrew from fourth official duties at Wolves on the advice of a psychologist who works with the Professional Game Match Officials Limited.
Muamba began his career at Arsenal, joining them as a schoolboy 10 years ago. Their manager, Arsène Wenger, said: "This is, of course, a massive shock to us all and we just hope that Fabrice will pull through safely.
"You pray that the damage will be repaired and that Fabrice will come out healthy and we will see his smile again. That is all you wish for.
"As a man, Fabrice has a positive attitude towards life, he is full of determination and has a great desire. Everyone at Arsenal has huge respect for Fabrice.
"Even after he left us, he often passed by to say hello and speak about how it was going for him. We feel very deeply attached to him. He is what you would call a committed player. His hunger and determination was so big. When he was younger, he had massive players in front of him at Arsenal, but I felt he had reached the level to play in the Premier League, so we let him go and he has proved his quality.
"A football player always remains attached to where he was educated. Fabrice had his friends from childhood here and they remain your friends forever. We are all thinking of Fabrice, his family and everyone close to him."

Reteta falimentara din baschetul romanesc. Baschetbalist refuzat in Romania, ajuns vedeta in NBA

Apreciat.

News on Fabrice Muamba tragedy

Video with the moment of Muamba collapses

7.07pm For those who did not experience the incident when it happened, there were no players near Muamba when he collapsed. Within 10 or 20 seconds it became apparent that something very serious had happened, and we soon found out that he had stopped breathing. He was treated on the field for almost 10 minutes, with a defibrilator used in an attempt to resuscitate him, before being taken off on a stretcher. Howard Webb took the players off the field, and the game was officially abandoned a few moments later.
The last we heard was that Muamba was on his way to hospital, that he was not breathing and that he was still receiving CPR. That was 35 minutes ago.
7.01pm Apparently Owen Coyle and Kevin Davies were in the ambulance with Muamba.

6.56pm Bolton have released a short formal statement to confirm the horrific events of the past hour.
Bolton Wanderers can confirm that Fabrice Muamba has been taken to hospital following his collapse at White Hart Lane this evening during the FA Cup quarter-final.
There is no further information at this stage.
6.54pm We'll keep this MBM going until we hear further news.
6.51pm ESPN have ended their coverage. Rebecca Lowe, John Barnes and Kevin Keegan did their job admirably in impossible circumstances, but ultimately there is nothing they can say. Everyone is just waiting to hear whether attempts to resuscitate Muamba have been successful.

6.48pm ESPN have reported that Muamba collapsed face down. He was then turned onto his side and then his back, which is when attempts to resuscitate him began.
6.44pm The ESPN reporter in the tunnel says that Bolton are preparing a statement to confirm that Muamba is on his way to hospital. There is no further information, and we still don't know whether attempts to resusciate Muamba have been successful. It's hard to articulate just how shocked everybody looks, from the referee to the players to the ESPN team

6.38pm The crowd are slowly, solemnly filing out of the ground. Jon Champion, the ESPN commentator, is talking about players who have died after collapsing on the field. Both he and the presenter Rebecca Lowe say they are "fearing the worst". As the ESPN summariser John Barnes points out, however, there are myriad examples of players who have collapsed on the field and survived.
6.33pm ESPN say that Muamba is still receiving CPR on the way to hospital.
6.30pm The game has officially been abandoned, and Fabrice Muamba is reportedly on his way to hospital. We don't yet know whether attempts to resuscitate him have been successful.
6.29pm Sky News have reported that Muamba had CPR on the field. The ESPN tunnel reporter says that many of the players have tears in their eyes, and that Muamba wasn't breathing when he was stretchered off the field.
6.27pm ESPN have confirmed that nobody was near Muamba when he collapsed. It doesn't matter, of course, but I'd say there's no chance this game will continue.
6.24pm On FiveLive, Ian Dennis has reported that Fabrice Muamba is fighting for his life.
6.22pm I didn't see what happened with Muamba; apparently he collapsed with nobody near him.
6.21pm ESPN have confirmed that Howard Webb has not officially abandoned the game; he is taking further advice and, presumably, waiting to see what happens with Fabrice Muamba. The ground is completely silent.
45+4 min Howard Webb has called the game off, at least for the time being. It's the only decision he could make.
45+3 min Muamba is now on a stretcher, and is being carried off. This does not mean he has been resuscitated; apparently they are still attempting to do that. The Bolton chairman Phil Gartside is down at the pitchside, talking to Howard Webb and Owen Coyle. How can you carry on a game after this?
45+2 min Attempts to resuscitate Muamba are still ongoing, and apparently a defibrilator has been used. This is just horrible.
45+1 min After a brief chant of Fabrice Muamba's name, the crowd falls silent. Nigel Reo Coker is on his knees, resting his chin on his fist.
44 min There's a woman crying in the crowd. This is horrific. The whole crowd is completely silent, and medical staff from both teams are gathered round Muamba. ESPN's cameras are not even showing the players anymore. Howard Webb has both his hands clasped together; he looks in significant distress.
42 min Fabrice Muamba appears to have suffered a very nasty injury. I'm not sure precisely what happened, but you can tell from the grave tone of the ESPN commentator Jon Champion – and the body language of the players – that this is extremely serious. Rafael Van der Vaart has his hands over his face, and ESPN's Jon Champion says that there are attemps to resuscitate Muamba. This is awful. All the players are in complete shock.

The score was 1-1 when he collapsed with no players close-by on 41 minutes.
Medical staff gave him mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and tried to revive him with a defibrillator.
He was taken off the pitch on a stretcher and ESPN reported that he was not breathing as he was taken down the tunnel.
